Materials and Prep
- Alphabet flashcards
- Whiteboard or paper
- Dry erase markers or pencils
No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.
Activities
- Introduce the alphabet flashcards to the student. Show them each letter and say its name out loud.
- Mix up the flashcards and place them face down on a table or the floor.
- Ask the student to pick a card and identify the letter on it. Encourage them to say the letter out loud.
- Repeat step 3 with multiple flashcards, gradually increasing the number of cards to challenge the student.
- Once the student is comfortable with identifying letters out of order, move on to the whiteboard or paper activity.
- Write a random sequence of letters on the whiteboard or paper, leaving spaces between them.
- Ask the student to identify the letters and write them in the correct order on the board or paper.
- Continue writing different sequences of letters and have the student rearrange them correctly.
- As a variation, you can also ask the student to spell simple words using the letters provided.
