Objective

By the end of this lesson, Elisabeth will be able to build a shelter using coffee filter makers and understand how wind catches can help collect rainwater.

Materials and Prep

Materials needed:

  • Coffee filter makers
  • Water dropper
  • Construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Markers or crayons

Prep: Make sure the coffee filter makers are clean and ready for use. Have the construction paper and markers/crayons ready for decorating.

Activities

1. Build a Coffee Filter Shelter: Elisabeth can use the coffee filter makers to create a small shelter by stacking and connecting them together. Encourage her to be creative with the design.

2. Wind Catcher Experiment: Show Elisabeth how wind catches can help collect rainwater by placing a coffee filter maker outside to catch raindrops. Discuss how the wind moves the rain into the catcher.
