Objective

By the end of this lesson, Elisabeth will be able to build a shelter and create wind catches using coffee filter markers and rainwater.

Materials and Prep

  • Coffee filters
  • Markers
  • Rainwater (collected in a bowl or cup)
  • Large piece of paper or cardboard for shelter
  • Imagination and creativity!

No additional preparation needed, just a clear workspace for creativity.

Activities

  • Create a shelter: Using the large piece of paper or cardboard, encourage Elisabeth to design and build a shelter using her imagination. Talk about what makes a good shelter.
  • Make wind catches: Show Elisabeth how to color on the coffee filters with markers. Once colored, place the coffee filters outside to catch the wind and watch them dance around. Discuss how wind moves things.
  • Collect rainwater: If it's raining, go outside with a bowl or cup to collect rainwater. Talk about how important water is for plants, animals, and people.

Talking Points

  • Shelter: "Let's build a cozy shelter for our toys. What should we use to make it strong and keep them safe?"
  • Wind catches: "Look at the pretty colors on the coffee filters! When the wind blows, they dance like magic. Can you catch the wind too?"
  • Rainwater: "Rain is like a gift from the sky. It helps flowers grow and fills up our rivers. Let's collect some rainwater and see how precious it is."
