Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to identify and recognize different letters of the alphabet.
Materials and Prep
Materials needed: Alphabet flashcards or printed letters, a clear space to work, and your listening ears!
Preparation: Familiarize yourself with the alphabet flashcards or printed letters before starting the lesson.
Activities
1. Alphabet Hunt: Hide the alphabet flashcards around the room and go on a letter hunt. When you find a letter, say its name out loud!
2. Letter Matching: Lay out the alphabet flashcards and match uppercase letters to their lowercase counterparts.
3. Letter Sound Game: Pick a letter and think of words that start with that letter. For example, "A is for apple!"
Talking Points
- “Letters are like little shapes that make up words. Each letter has its own special name.”
- “When we see the letter 'A', we say 'ay' like in 'apple'. Can you say 'ay'?”
- “Let's find the letter 'B'! It looks like two humps. Can you draw a 'B' in the air with your finger?”
- “Matching letters means finding the big and small versions of the same letter. Can you match the big 'C' with the small 'c'?”
- “Remember, letters are friends that help us read and write. Let's practice saying the alphabet together!”
