Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to communicate effectively by using interpersonal conventions and language to extend and elaborate ideas for social and learning interactions.
Materials and Prep
Materials needed: Paper, crayons/markers, a favorite stuffed animal or toy, and a positive attitude!
Before the lesson, think about a favorite story or experience you would like to share.
Activities
1. Story Time: Share your favorite story with your stuffed animal or toy. Use expressive language and gestures to make the story come alive!
2. Draw and Tell: Draw a picture of a fun adventure you would like to have. Then, tell a friend or family member all about your drawing.
3. Puppet Show: Create a puppet show using your stuffed animal or toy as the main character. Use your voice to make the character talk and interact with others.
Talking Points
- When we communicate, we use words and body language to share our thoughts and feelings. Remember, it's important to listen to others too.
- Using expressive language means using words that show how we feel or what we imagine. It makes our storytelling more exciting!
- Interpersonal conventions are like the rules of a game. They help us know how to talk and act in different situations, like when we're playing with friends or meeting new people.
"Talking and listening are like a dance. We take turns sharing and understanding each other."
"Imagine your words are like magic paintbrushes, painting a picture in someone else's mind."
"Just like in a game, there are rules to follow when we talk and play with others. These rules help us have fun together!"
