Objective
By the end of this lesson, Gabrielle will learn the essential skills and strategies to become an independent learner. She will understand how to set personal goals, manage her time effectively, and utilize resources to enhance her learning experience.
Materials and Prep
- Notebook and pen
- A timer (can use a phone or clock)
- Art supplies (colored pencils, markers, etc.)
- Access to a quiet space for learning
- Printed templates for goal setting and time management (can be drawn by hand if needed)
Before the lesson, ensure Gabrielle has a quiet space to work and is prepared to think creatively about her learning journey.
Activities
- Goal Setting Workshop:
Gabrielle will create a vision board that represents her educational goals. She can draw or write down what subjects she wants to excel in, skills she wants to acquire, and what she hopes to achieve by the end of the year.
- Time Management Challenge:
Using a timer, Gabrielle will plan her study sessions. She will practice the Pomodoro Technique by working for 25 minutes and then taking a 5-minute break. This will help her understand how to break tasks into manageable chunks.
- Resource Exploration:
Gabrielle will brainstorm different resources she can use for independent learning, such as online courses, libraries, and educational podcasts. She will create a list of at least five resources and explain how she might use each one.
- Reflection Journal:
At the end of the lesson, Gabrielle will write a short reflection on what she learned about being an independent learner and how she plans to apply these skills in her studies moving forward.
