Prior to the lesson, make sure you have gathered all the materials and set up a designated area for the garden.
Activities
- Discuss the importance of plants and gardens. Talk about how plants provide us with food, oxygen, and beauty.
- Explain the basic needs of plants: sunlight, water, soil, and air.
- Show the student how to prepare the soil by loosening it with hands or small tools, and then filling the pots or containers with soil.
- Plant the seeds or seedlings in the soil, ensuring they are at the appropriate depth and spacing.
- Water the plants gently using a watering can or spray bottle, making sure not to overwater them.
- Discuss the importance of regularly watering the plants and how it helps them grow.
- Place the pots or containers in a sunny spot outdoors or near a sunny windowsill.
- Create a chart together to track the growth of the plants. Include columns for date, plant height, and any observations.
- Encourage the student to regularly observe and record the changes in the plants' growth on the chart.
- Discuss any observations made and answer any questions the student may have.
