Objective
By the end of this lesson, Sammi will have a better understanding of what life was like in the 1920s at the Mahaffie Homestead. She will learn about daily activities, clothing, food, and the culture of that time period, allowing her to appreciate how people lived differently than today.
Materials and Prep
- Notebook and pencils for taking notes
- Art supplies (colored pencils, markers, or crayons)
- Access to a computer or tablet for research (if possible)
- Printouts of 1920s clothing styles and household items (optional)
- Prepare a list of questions Sammi might have about the 1920s
Activities
-
Time Capsule Creation:
Sammi will create a "time capsule" that represents her life today. She can include drawings of her favorite toys, foods, and activities. This will help her think about how different life was in the 1920s.
-
Fashion Show:
Using the art supplies, Sammi can design outfits inspired by 1920s fashion. She can then put on a mini fashion show, explaining the significance of each outfit and how it reflects the culture of the time.
-
Cooking Challenge:
Sammi can research a simple 1920s recipe and try to recreate it with ingredients she has at home. This will give her a taste of what people ate during that time!
-
Story Time:
Sammi can write a short story from the perspective of a child living in the 1920s, describing a day in their life. This creative writing exercise will help her understand the daily routines and challenges faced by children in that era.
