Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to analyze and interpret Norse mythology texts, identify key themes and symbols, and make connections to other literary works.

Materials and Prep

  • Norse mythology books or online resources
  • Writing materials
  • Computer or tablet with internet access (if using online resources)
  • Prior knowledge of basic Norse mythology concepts

Activities

  1. Read a Norse mythology text of choice, such as a myth or a saga. Take notes on key characters, events, and themes.

  2. Write a brief summary of the text, highlighting the main plot points and any significant symbolism or motifs.

  3. Discuss the text with a partner or family member. Share your interpretations and thoughts on the themes and symbols present in the story.

  4. Research other literary works that have been influenced by Norse mythology. Write a short analysis comparing and contrasting the use of Norse mythology in different texts.

  5. Create a visual representation of a Norse mythology character or scene. Use any artistic medium you prefer, such as drawing, painting, or digital art.
