Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and read simple words related to art, as well as express their creativity through drawing and coloring. The lesson will help build confidence in reading while connecting with their love for art.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Crayons or colored pencils
- A list of simple art-related words (e.g., paint, brush, color, draw, art)
- Examples of art (drawings, paintings) to discuss
Before the lesson, prepare the list of words and have some examples of art ready to share with the student.
Activities
-
Art Word Hunt:
Go on a treasure hunt around the house to find items that match the art-related words. For example, find a paintbrush or a crayon. When you find each item, say its name together and practice reading the word.
-
Word and Art Matching:
Write down the simple art words on pieces of paper. Then, ask the student to draw a picture that represents each word. For example, if the word is "paint," they can draw a paint palette. This helps them connect words with images.
-
Color and Read:
Create a coloring sheet with the art words. As the student colors, encourage them to read the words aloud. You can say, "What does this word say? Can you color it in while you say it?"
Talking Points
- "Look at this word, it says 'paint.' Can you say 'paint' with me?"
- "What color do you think of when you hear the word 'brush'? Let's draw a picture of a brush!"
- "When we say 'color,' what colors do you like the best? Let's color something together!"
- "Every time you find an art item, we can read its name. This makes us super readers!"
- "Art is fun, and so is reading! Let's make a beautiful picture with our new words!"
