Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize letters, create simple words, and write a short sentence. The student will also develop a love for reading and writing through fun activities.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Pencil or crayon
- Colorful markers (optional)
- A comfortable space to sit and write
- Imagination and a big smile!
Before starting the lesson, ensure the student is in a quiet, comfortable environment where they can focus and have fun with writing and reading.
Activities
-
Letter Hunt:
Go on a letter hunt around the house! Look for items that start with different letters. For example, "Can you find something that starts with 'A'?" This will help the student recognize letters and sounds.
-
Word Creation:
Using the letters from the letter hunt, challenge the student to create simple words. For example, if you found 'A' for apple and 'B' for ball, ask them to think of a word that starts with 'A' or 'B'.
-
Sentence Building:
Encourage the student to think of their favorite animal or toy. Help them write a simple sentence like "I love my dog!" or "The cat is fluffy!" This will teach them how to form sentences.
-
Story Time:
Read a short story together, then ask the student to draw their favorite part. Afterward, they can tell you about their drawing and what they think happens next in the story.
-
Creative Drawing:
Let the student draw a picture of their favorite place or thing. Once they finish, ask them to describe their drawing. You can write down their words to create a mini story!
Talking Points
- "What letter does this item start with? Can you say it out loud?"
- "Can you think of a word that starts with this letter? Great job!"
- "Let's make a sentence together! What do you love? Let's write it down!"
- "What was your favorite part of the story? Can you draw it for me?"
- "Tell me about your drawing! What story does it tell?"
