Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand the importance of listening, following rules, and recognizing the consequences of deceit. Through stories like 'The Boy Who Cried Wolf' and 'The Tale of Peter Rabbit', the student will learn valuable lessons about safety and honesty.

Materials and Prep

  • Printed copies of the stories: 'The Boy Who Cried Wolf', 'The Tale of Peter Rabbit', 'HuGoPu', and 'Tselan'
  • Art supplies: paper, crayons, markers, and scissors
  • Storytelling props (optional): puppets or stuffed animals to represent characters
  • Space for activities (a table or floor area)
  • Knowledge of the themes of disobedience, safety, and deceit

Activities

  • Story Reading and Discussion: Read each story aloud with the student. After each story, discuss the main characters and their actions. Ask questions like, "What happened when the boy cried wolf?" and "Why did Peter Rabbit disobey his mother?"
  • Character Role Play: Choose characters from the stories and act out different scenes. This will help the student understand the emotions and motivations of the characters. Encourage them to express how the characters might feel when they disobey rules.
  • Art Project - Create Your Own Storybook: Have the student create a mini storybook that includes their own version of one of the tales. They can illustrate the pages and write a short summary of the moral of the story.
  • Listening Game: Play a game where you give the student instructions to follow (e.g., "Touch your toes, then clap your hands"). Discuss how important it is to listen carefully to avoid misunderstandings.

Talking Points

  • "Why do you think the boy kept lying? What did he want to happen?"
  • "How did the villagers feel when they realized the boy was not telling the truth?"
  • "What rules did Peter Rabbit break? What could have happened if he had listened to his mother?"
  • "In 'HuGoPu', how did the character's choices affect their safety?"
  • "What do you think is the most important lesson from these stories?"
  • "Can you think of a time when you didn't listen? What happened?"
  • "Why do you think rules are important? How do they help keep us safe?"
