Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize, write, and pronounce all the letters of the alphabet. They will also create fun words using the letters they have learned.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper
  • Pencil or crayons
  • Space to write and draw

Before the lesson, make sure the student is comfortable with holding a pencil and has a clear space to work on their writing and drawing activities.

Activities

  • Alphabet Song Sing-Along: Start the lesson by singing the alphabet song together. This will help the student remember the order of the letters.
  • Letter Tracing: Have the student practice tracing each letter of the alphabet on their paper. Encourage them to say the letter out loud as they trace it.
  • Draw and Write: Ask the student to pick their favorite letter and draw an object that starts with that letter. Then, they can write the letter and the word underneath their drawing.
  • Alphabet Hunt: Challenge the student to find objects around the house that start with each letter of the alphabet. They can write down the letters and the objects they find.

  • "Let's think of a word that starts with the letter D. Can you think of one? How about 'dog'?"
  • "Did you know that every letter has a big version and a small version? Let's practice both!"
  • "What letter comes after F? That's right! It's G!"
  • "Can you show me how to write the letter H? Great job! You made two straight lines!"
