Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand basic math concepts through fun activities related to Roblox, as well as improve their English vocabulary by describing their favorite Roblox games and characters.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper and pencil for writing and drawing
  • A timer or stopwatch (can use a phone timer)
  • Roblox game or character ideas (the student can think of their favorites)
  • Basic math problems (addition, subtraction, and simple multiplication)

Before the lesson, ensure the student has access to their favorite Roblox games or characters for reference. Prepare a few simple math problems that can be related to Roblox, such as counting items or characters.

Activities

  1. Roblox Character Math

Ask the student to choose their favorite Roblox characters. Then, create simple math problems based on the number of characters they choose. For example, if they choose 5 characters, ask them how many more they would need to have 10 characters.

  2. Roblox Game Descriptions

The student will describe their favorite Roblox game in 3-5 sentences. Encourage them to use descriptive words. This will help them practice their English vocabulary and storytelling skills.

  3. Time Challenge

Set a timer for 5 minutes and challenge the student to write down as many Roblox items, characters, or games as they can. After the time is up, they can share their list with you, and you can discuss them together.

  4. Roblox Story Creation

Have the student create a short story involving their favorite Roblox character. They can write or draw scenes from their story, incorporating math problems they encounter in their adventure.

Talking Points

  • "Can you tell me how many characters you chose? Let's count them together!"
  • "What do you like most about your favorite Roblox game? Let's use some exciting words to describe it!"
  • "How many more characters do we need to reach 10? Let’s solve that together!"
  • "What items did you write down in your challenge? Let's see how many you can remember!"
  • "Can you think of a problem your character might face in your story? Let's create a fun math problem out of it!"
  • "What happens next in your story? Let’s make sure to use lots of details!"
  • "How can we use math in Roblox? Can you think of any examples?"
