Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify different types of flowers and express their creativity by creating their own flower art piece. They will learn about colors, shapes, and textures found in flowers while having fun!
Materials and Prep
- Paper (any kind, plain or colored)
- Crayons or colored pencils
- Scissors (if safe to use)
- Glue (if safe to use)
- Nature items (like dried leaves or flower petals, if available)
Before the lesson, gather materials and consider taking a short walk outside to observe real flowers. This will help inspire the student’s art!
Activities
-
Flower Observation Walk
Take a short walk outside to observe different flowers. Ask the student to notice the colors, shapes, and sizes of the flowers they see. Encourage them to take notes or draw quick sketches of their favorites.
-
Flower Drawing
Using crayons or colored pencils, have the student draw their favorite flower from the walk or create an imaginary flower. Encourage them to use lots of colors and make it unique!
-
Collage Creation
If you have access to dried leaves or flower petals, help the student create a collage by gluing these items onto their paper. They can arrange them to form a beautiful flower or garden scene.
Talking Points
- "What colors do you see in the flowers? Can you name them?"
- "How many different shapes can you find in the flowers? Are some round, pointy, or long?"
- "What do you think makes a flower special? Is it the color, the smell, or something else?"
- "Can you tell me about your favorite flower? What do you like about it?"
- "When you draw your flower, how can you make it look different from real flowers?"
- "What do you think flowers need to grow? Can we make our own flowers with art?"
