Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize, pronounce, and use words that contain the "sh" sound. The student will also engage in fun activities that reinforce this sound through various interactive methods.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Pencil or crayons
- Whiteboard or large sheet of paper (optional)
- Access to a quiet space for reading and writing
- List of "sh" words (e.g., ship, shoe, fish, bush, etc.) prepared beforehand
Activities
-
Sound Hunt:
Go on a "sh" sound scavenger hunt around the house or outside. The student can look for objects that start with the "sh" sound (e.g., shoes, shells, etc.) and write them down or draw pictures of them.
-
Sh Sound Story:
Have the student create a short story that includes as many "sh" words as possible. They can illustrate their story and share it with you after writing.
-
Sh Sound Art:
Using crayons or markers, the student can create a poster featuring "sh" words. They can decorate it with drawings or stickers that relate to each word.
-
Sh Sound Charades:
Play a game of charades where the student acts out words that contain the "sh" sound while you guess the word. This will help reinforce the sound through movement and play.
Talking Points
- "The 'sh' sound is made by placing your tongue close to the roof of your mouth and blowing air out. Can you try to make that sound with me?"
- "Let's think of some words that start with the 'sh' sound. Can you say 'shoe' and 'ship'? Great job!"
- "Did you know that the 'sh' sound can be found in the middle of words too? Like in 'fish' or 'bush'!"
- "When we write our story, let's try to use as many 'sh' words as we can. It will make our story sound fun and interesting!"
- "Remember, practicing the 'sh' sound can help us with reading and speaking clearly. Let's have fun with it!"
