Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand who Paddington Bear is, describe his adventures, and express their thoughts about kindness and friendship through fun activities inspired by Paddington's stories.
Materials and Prep
- A comfortable reading area
- Imagination and creativity!
- Optional: A bear stuffed toy for role-playing (if available)
- Space to move around for activities
Before the lesson, it might be helpful to read a short Paddington Bear story if possible, or discuss what the student already knows about him. This will help set the stage for the activities.
Activities
-
Story Time:
Read a Paddington Bear story together. Ask the student to listen carefully and think about what Paddington does and how he feels. You can take turns reading or ask them to point out their favorite parts.
-
Padded Adventure:
Let the student pretend to be Paddington Bear! They can wear a blue coat or a hat (if available) and act out an adventure. You can create a simple scenario like Paddington going to the market or visiting a friend.
-
Bear's Kindness:
Discuss how Paddington is always kind to others. Ask the student to think of ways they can be kind like Paddington. They can draw a picture of Paddington helping someone or write a short story about a kind act.
Talking Points
- "Paddington Bear is a friendly bear who loves adventures. Can you tell me what you think makes Paddington special?"
- "What do you think Paddington feels when he helps his friends? Helping makes us feel good!"
- "Can you think of a time when you were kind to someone? Just like Paddington, we can all be kind!"
- "Paddington loves marmalade! What is your favorite food? Maybe we can pretend to make it together!"
