Objective

By the end of this lesson, Natalia will learn about different marine animals such as dolphins, turtles, orcas, walruses, belugas, and manatees. She will understand their habitats, behaviors, and some fun facts about each animal, fostering a greater appreciation for marine life.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper
  • Crayons or colored pencils
  • Access to a computer or tablet for videos (optional)
  • Space to move around for activities

Before the lesson, it would be helpful to know some basic facts about each animal. This will help guide the discussion and activities.

Activities

  • Animal Drawing:

Natalia will choose her favorite marine animal and draw it on paper. She can use crayons or colored pencils to make it colorful and vibrant. After drawing, she can tell a story about her animal.

  • Movement Imitation:

Natalia will pretend to be each marine animal. For example, she can swim like a dolphin, waddle like a walrus, or glide like a manatee. This will help her understand how each animal moves in the water.

  • Fun Facts Sharing:

After learning about each animal, Natalia can share one fun fact about her favorite marine animal with you. This encourages her to remember what she has learned.

  • Marine Life Show and Tell:

Natalia can gather any toys or pictures of marine animals she has and do a little show and tell. She can explain what she knows about each animal while showing them.

Talking Points

  • "Did you know dolphins are very smart? They can jump and do tricks!"
  • "Turtles have a hard shell to protect them. It's like wearing a helmet!"
  • "Orcas are also called killer whales, but they are actually very social and live in family groups!"
