Objective
By the end of this lesson, Rosabella will understand the story of David and Goliath, learn about courage and faith, and be able to share her thoughts on how even the smallest person can achieve great things.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Crayons or markers
- Space to move around for activities
- Knowledge of the basic story of David and Goliath
Activities
-
Story Time: Begin by reading the story of David and Goliath. Use simple language and engage Rosabella by asking her questions about the characters and what she thinks will happen next.
-
Draw Your Hero: After discussing the story, have Rosabella draw her version of David. Encourage her to think about what makes someone a hero and to illustrate those qualities.
-
Goliath's Challenge: Create a fun physical activity where Rosabella can pretend to be David. Set up pillows or soft objects as "Goliath" and have her practice her slingshot skills by tossing soft balls or rolled-up socks at them.
-
Reflection Time: Sit down together and talk about what Rosabella learned from the story. Ask her how she would feel if she were in David's shoes and what she thinks is the most important lesson from the story.
Talking Points
- "Who was David and who was Goliath? Can you tell me what made Goliath so scary?"
- "What do you think David felt when he was about to face Goliath? Was he scared?"
- "Why do you think David wanted to fight Goliath even though he was much smaller?"
- "What does it mean to be brave? Can you think of a time when you felt brave?"
- "What can we learn from David? How can we be brave in our own lives?"
- "Remember, even if you are small, you can do big things! What big thing do you want to do someday?"
