  • Optional: Crayons and paper for drawing shapes
  • Optional: Play-Doh

Hello, Super Shape Explorer David!

Are you ready to go on an exciting adventure to find amazing shapes? Shapes are all around us! Today, we're going to meet three special shape friends: Circle, Square, and Triangle!

Part 1: Meet the Shapes!

Let's meet our shape friends one by one. Look, I have them right here!

(Show the large circle cutout.)

This is Circle! A circle is round and round, like a ball or a happy sun. Can you say 'Circle'? Let's trace it with our finger in the air! Round and round!

(Show the large square cutout.)

This is Square! A square has four sides that are all the same, and four pointy corners. Like a window or a present box! Can you say 'Square'? Let's count its sides: one, two, three, four!

(Show the large triangle cutout.)

This is Triangle! A triangle has three sides and three pointy corners, like a slice of pizza or a party hat! Can you say 'Triangle'? Let's count its sides: one, two, three!

Part 2: Shape Hunt in the Mystery Bag!

Guess what, David? I have a Mystery Bag full of treasures! Some of these treasures are circles, some are squares, and some are triangles. Are you ready to be a shape detective?

Okay, close your eyes and reach into the Mystery Bag. Pull out one treasure!

(David pulls out an object.)

What did you find? Let's look at it. Is it round like a circle? Does it have four sides like a square? Or three sides like a triangle? Let's put it next to its matching big shape friend (the cutouts).

(Repeat this for several objects, helping David identify the shape and sort it.)

Part 3: Shape Moves!

Let's use our bodies to make shapes!

  • Can you make your arms into a big Circle? Round and round!
  • Can you try to make your body like a Square? Maybe sitting with your legs out? (This is tricky, focus on the idea!)
  • Can you make your hands into a Triangle above your head, like a roof?

Part 4: Shape Song!

(Sing to the tune of "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star")

Circles, circles, round they go,
Like a happy sun, you know.
Circles, circles, round they go,
Smooth and curvy, watch them flow!

Square, oh square, with sides so straight,
Counting four is really great!
Square, oh square, with sides so straight,
Like a window, standing great!

Triangle, with points of three,
Like a mountain, wild and free.
Triangle, with points of three,
Happy shapes for you and me!

Part 5: Shape Wrap-Up!

Wow, David, you were an amazing Shape Explorer today! You found circles, squares, and triangles! Can you point to the circle? (Pause for David to point). Great! Can you point to the square? (Pause). Wonderful! And where is the triangle? (Pause). Fantastic!

Shapes are everywhere. Maybe later today, you can look for more shapes in our house or when we go outside!

Optional Fun:

  • Shape Drawing: Let's draw our favorite shapes with crayons!
  • Play-Doh Shapes: We can make circles, squares, and triangles with Play-Doh!

You did a super job today, David! High five!
