Objective
By the end of this lesson, Brooklynn will be able to identify and differentiate between big and small objects, as well as recognize the letter "S" and its sound. She will also create a fun worksheet showcasing her understanding of these concepts.
Materials and Prep
- Blank worksheet for drawing and writing
- Crayons or colored pencils
- Examples of big and small objects (e.g., a big toy and a small toy)
- Knowledge of the letter "S" and its sound
Activities
-
Big and Small Hunt: Go around the house or yard and find one big object and one small object. Brooklynn can draw them on her worksheet and label them with the letter "S" for small and "B" for big.
-
Letter "S" Sound Game: Say a few words that start with the letter "S" (like sun, sock, and snake). Brooklynn will repeat them after you and clap for each word she hears that starts with "S".
-
Big and Small Sorting: Create two columns on the worksheet, one for big items and one for small items. Brooklynn can draw or write words under each column based on the objects she finds.
-
Story Time: Read a short story or make up a story that includes big and small characters or objects. Ask Brooklynn to point out which ones are big and which are small as you read.
Talking Points
- "What do you think makes something big or small? Can you show me with your hands?"
- "Let's listen for the letter 'S' sound in these words. Can you hear it?"
- "What is your favorite big object? What about your favorite small object?"
- "Can you think of more things that start with the letter 'S'? Let's make a list!"
- "Look at your drawings! How can we tell which one is big and which one is small?"
- "Great job today! What was the most fun part of our big and small lesson?"
