Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and describe family members in the target foreign language, using vocabulary and simple sentences. The student will also engage in fun activities that reinforce their understanding of family-related terms.

Materials and Prep

  • A notebook or paper for writing
  • A pen or pencil
  • Access to a dictionary or translation app (optional)
  • Preparation: Familiarize yourself with basic family vocabulary in the target language (e.g., mother, father, sister, brother, etc.).

Activities

  • Family Tree Creation: The student will draw a family tree on paper, labeling each family member in the target language. This visual representation helps them understand relationships and vocabulary.

  • Role Play: The student will create a short dialogue between two family members using the vocabulary learned. They can act out the conversation to practice pronunciation and fluency.

  • Family Member Descriptions: The student will write a few sentences describing their family members using the new vocabulary. They can share this with you or record themselves reading it aloud.

  • Memory Game: Create flashcards with pictures of family members on one side and their names in the target language on the other. The student can play a memory matching game to reinforce their vocabulary.
