Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will explore how colors mix and change when placed on a light table, developing their understanding of color theory and enhancing their fine motor skills.
Materials and Prep
- Color blocks (various colors)
- Light table
- A comfortable space to work
Before starting the lesson, ensure the light table is set up in a well-lit area and that the student has easy access to the color blocks. Familiarize the student with how to safely use the light table.
Activities
-
Color Mixing Exploration
Let the student place different color blocks next to each other on the light table and observe how the colors blend. Ask them to predict what colors will appear when two blocks are placed together.
-
Shadow Play
Encourage the student to stack blocks to create shadows. Have them notice how the shadows change based on the colors and the arrangement of the blocks.
-
Color Patterns
Challenge the student to create patterns using the color blocks. They can arrange them in a sequence and then describe their pattern to you.
-
Color Stories
Ask the student to create a "story" using the color blocks. They can arrange the blocks in a way that tells a story and then explain it to you.
Talking Points
- "What happens when we put these two colors together? Can you guess what new color we might see?"
- "Look at the shadows! Why do you think they look different when we change the blocks?"
- "Can you tell me what colors you used to make your pattern? How does it make you feel?"
- "What is your favorite color story? Can you show me how the blocks tell that story?"
- "How do you think light helps us see these beautiful colors? What do you think would happen if we turned off the light?"
- "Which block is your favorite? Why do you like it so much?"
