Objective
By the end of this lesson, Willow will be able to recognize and name the days of the week while having fun with her favorite Ryan’s World characters!
Materials and Prep
- Paper and crayons or markers for drawing
- Ryan’s World character stickers or printouts (if available)
- Simple calendar template (can be drawn by hand)
- Fun music or theme song from Ryan’s World (optional)
Before the lesson, it would be helpful to review the names of the days of the week together and get Willow excited about using Ryan’s World characters in the activities!
Activities
-
Day of the Week Song:
Start the lesson by singing a fun song about the days of the week. You can use a familiar tune and replace the lyrics with the names of the days. For example, to the tune of "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star": "Sunday, Monday, Tuesday too, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, woo! Saturday comes, and then we play, Every day is fun, hooray!"
-
Ryan’s World Calendar Creation:
Help Willow create her own calendar using paper. She can draw a big box for each day and decorate them with Ryan’s World stickers or drawings, labeling each box with the correct day of the week.
-
Character Days:
Assign each day of the week a different Ryan’s World character. For example, "Monday is for Red Titan, Tuesday is for Gus, etc." Discuss what fun activities they can do on each character's day!
-
Days of the Week Dance:
Play some fun music and have a dance party where each song represents a day of the week. When the music stops, Willow can shout out the day of the week that corresponds to the song!
Talking Points
- "Can you tell me what day it is today? Let’s see if we can find it on our calendar!"
- "Every day is special! What do you like to do on Mondays? How about Fridays?"
- "Let’s sing our days of the week song together! Can you sing it with me?"
- "Look at all these fun days! Which Ryan’s World character do you want to represent today?"
- "Dancing is a great way to remember the days! Can you show me your best dance move for each day?"
