Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the concepts of growth and change in the human body, including how our bodies develop from childhood to adulthood. The student will also be able to identify key stages of human development and participate in a fun quiz to reinforce their learning.
Materials and Prep
- Usborne First Encyclopedia of the Human Body (pages 46 and 47)
- Access to the internet to watch the video on BBC Bitesize
- Notebook and pencil for notes and quiz answers
Before the lesson, ensure that the student has access to the Usborne encyclopedia and the internet for the video. Familiarize yourself with the content on pages 46 and 47 so you can guide the student effectively.
Activities
- Read and Discuss: Start by reading pages 46 and 47 of the Usborne encyclopedia together. After reading, discuss the main points. Ask the student what they found interesting and if they have any questions.
- Watch and Learn: Watch the video on BBC Bitesize together. Make sure to pause at key moments to discuss what is being shown. This will help reinforce the information from the book.
- Quiz Time: After watching the video, take the corresponding multiple-choice quiz together. Help the student with any questions they find challenging, and discuss the correct answers afterward.
- Creative Drawing: Have the student draw a picture of a human body at different ages (baby, child, teenager, adult). They can label the different stages and write down one thing that changes at each stage.
