Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will have a deeper understanding of the Picturary game, including its rules, strategies, and creative expression through drawing and guessing. The student will also enhance their communication skills and ability to think critically while having fun with visual storytelling.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper
  • Pencil or pen
  • A timer (can be a phone or any device with a timer)
  • A list of words or phrases for drawing (can be created before the lesson)

Before the lesson, prepare a list of fun words or phrases that can be drawn. Ensure the student understands the basic rules of drawing and guessing, and explain that creativity is encouraged!

Activities

  • Warm-Up Drawing

Start with a quick warm-up where the student draws random shapes or objects for 5 minutes. This helps loosen up their drawing skills and gets them in the mood for the game!

  • Picturary Game Round 1

Play the first round of the Picturary game. The student will pick a word or phrase from the prepared list and have 1 minute to draw it without using any letters or numbers, while you guess what it is. Switch roles after each round.

  • Creative Drawing Challenge

In this activity, the student will draw a scene or story using multiple words from the list. They will have 10 minutes to create their masterpiece, allowing them to express their creativity and storytelling skills.

  • Reflection and Discussion

After playing, have a discussion about what strategies worked best for drawing and guessing. Encourage the student to reflect on their experience and what they learned about visual communication.

Talking Points

  • "Picturary is not just about drawing; it's about conveying ideas visually. How can we use our drawings to tell a story?"
  • "Remember, there's no right or wrong way to draw. The goal is to communicate your idea, so let your creativity shine!"
  • "How did you feel while drawing? Did you find it easy or challenging to express your thoughts visually?"
  • "What strategies did you use to guess the drawings? Did you look for specific details or rely on the overall theme?"
  • "Drawing can be a fun way to improve our communication skills. How do you think this will help you in other areas?"
