Objective
By the end of this lesson, Genesis will be able to create a variety of flowers using pipe cleaners, while exploring concepts in art, language, history, math, physical education, science, and social studies. This hands-on project will enhance her creativity and understanding of these subjects through the medium of crafting.
Materials and Prep
- Assorted pipe cleaners (various colors)
- Scissors (for cutting pipe cleaners if needed)
- Flat surface for crafting
- Notebook and pencil for notes and sketches
Before starting the lesson, ensure that Genesis has a comfortable workspace and access to all materials. Discuss the importance of each subject area in relation to the creative process.
Activities
-
Art Activity: Create Your Flower
Genesis will design and create at least three different types of flowers using pipe cleaners. Encourage her to experiment with colors and shapes to express her artistic vision.

History Activity: The History of Flowers
Genesis will research the significance of flowers in different cultures and historical events. She can create a mini-presentation or a poster to showcase her findings.
-
Math Activity: Measuring and Counting
As she creates her flowers, Genesis can measure the lengths of the pipe cleaners used and count how many of each color she has. This will reinforce basic math skills.
-
Physical Education Activity: Movement Break
In between crafting, Genesis can take short movement breaks to stretch or do a quick dance. This will keep her energized and focused during the lesson.
-
Science Activity: Plant Biology
Discuss the anatomy of real flowers and how they grow. Genesis can draw a diagram of a flower and label its parts, relating it back to her pipe cleaner creations.
