Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to create letters from playdoh, enhancing their fine motor skills, letter recognition, and creativity.
Materials and Prep
- Playdoh (any color)
Before starting the lesson, make sure the playdoh is soft and easy to mold. You can set up a clean workspace where the student can comfortably sit and create.
Activities
-
Letter Formation:
Guide the student to roll playdoh into different shapes to form each letter of the alphabet. Start with simple letters like "A," "B," and "C." Encourage them to use different colors to make it more fun!
-
Letter Matching:
Once they create a letter, ask them to match it with a corresponding object or picture around the house that starts with that letter. For example, "A" for apple.
-
Letter Stories:
After creating a few letters, have the student create a simple story using the letters they made. For instance, they could say, "A is for apple, B is for ball," and so on.
Talking Points
- "What letter are we making first? Let's choose one together!"
- "Can you tell me what sound this letter makes? Like 'A' for 'apple'!"
- "Let's count how many letters we can make today! One, two, three..."
- "How do you think we can make this letter look even cooler? Maybe add some sparkles!"
- "Great job! Now can you think of a word that starts with this letter? Like 'B' for 'ball'?"
