Objective

By the end of this lesson, Brooke will be able to introduce herself in Spanish, express her likes and dislikes, and understand basic greetings. She will also learn some fun vocabulary related to her favorite activities.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper and colored pencils or markers
  • A notebook for vocabulary and notes
  • A timer or stopwatch (optional for games)
  • Basic Spanish vocabulary list (greetings, colors, and common verbs)

Before the lesson, it would be helpful to familiarize Brooke with some basic Spanish sounds and pronunciation. A quick review of the Spanish alphabet may also be beneficial.

Activities

  • Self-Introduction Game:

Brooke will practice introducing herself in Spanish. She can say her name, age, and one thing she likes. For example: "Hola, me llamo Brooke. Tengo diez años. Me gusta el chocolate."

  • Color Hunt:

Brooke will go on a color hunt around the house or yard. She will find objects of different colors and say their names in Spanish. For example, "Rojo" for red and "Azul" for blue.

  • Likes and Dislikes Chart:

Using her notebook, Brooke will create a chart listing things she likes and dislikes in Spanish. She can draw or write phrases like "Me gusta el helado" (I like ice cream) and "No me gusta el brócoli" (I don't like broccoli).

  • Spanish Bingo:

Brooke will create a bingo card with different Spanish words she has learned. As you call out the words in English, she will mark them on her card. This will help reinforce her vocabulary.
