Objective
By the end of this lesson, Brooke will have a better understanding of different musical genres, learn about rhythm and melody, and create her own short piece of music using her voice and body percussion.
Materials and Prep
- Brooke's voice
- Hands and feet for body percussion
- A quiet space to practice
- A timer or clock
Before the lesson, remind Brooke to think about her favorite songs and what makes them special to her. Encourage her to be creative and have fun with the activities!
Activities
-
Musical Genre Exploration:
Brooke will listen to short clips of different musical genres (like pop, rock, classical, and jazz). After each clip, she will describe what she hears and how it makes her feel. This will help her identify the characteristics of each genre.
-
Rhythm and Body Percussion:
Brooke will create her own rhythm using claps and stomps. She'll start with a simple pattern and then try to make it more complex. This activity will help her understand rhythm in music.
-
Melody Creation:
Using her voice, Brooke will come up with a short melody. She can hum or sing it, and then try to combine it with her body percussion rhythm from the previous activity. This will give her a chance to express herself musically.
-
Performance Time:
Brooke will perform her rhythm and melody combination for an imaginary audience. This will boost her confidence and allow her to showcase her creativity.
