Objective

By the end of this lesson, Mason will have created a unique character design inspired by Roblox, using his imagination and creativity. He will learn about the elements of character design, including color, shape, and personality, and how these elements come together to create a memorable character.

Materials and Prep

• Pencil and eraser
• Paper (preferably sketch paper)
• Colored pencils or markers
• Reference images of Roblox characters (can be found online)
• A computer or tablet for research (optional)

Before the lesson, it would be helpful for Mason to think about his favorite Roblox games and characters. He can also gather some reference images to inspire his design.

Activities

• Character Brainstorming:

  Mason will start by brainstorming ideas for his character. He can think about what kind of personality he wants his character to have and what kind of adventures they might go on. Encourage him to write down keywords that describe his character.

• Sketching the Character:

  Next, Mason will create a rough sketch of his character based on his brainstorming. He can focus on the overall shape and features of the character. Remind him that it’s okay to make mistakes and adjust his design as he goes!

• Adding Color:

  Once the sketch is complete, Mason will use colored pencils or markers to bring his character to life. He can choose colors that reflect his character's personality and the world they live in. Encourage him to be bold with his color choices!

• Character Backstory:

  Finally, Mason will write a short backstory for his character. This can include where they come from, their favorite activities, and what makes them special. This will help him think about how his character fits into the Roblox world.
