Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to count the difference between numbers represented by objects.
Materials and Prep
- Objects for counting (e.g. blocks, toys, buttons)
Activities
- Activity 1: Counting Objects
- Activity 2: Number Line
Ask the student to gather a set of objects. Then, have them count the objects and write down the number. Next, ask them to remove some objects from the set and count the remaining objects. Finally, guide them to determine the difference between the two counts.
Create a simple number line on a piece of paper, starting from 1 and ending at a number within the student's counting range. Have the student place objects on the number line to represent different numbers. Ask them to identify the difference between adjacent numbers on the number line.
