Objective

By the end of this lesson, Vinee will understand the importance of saving money and how to successfully complete the 100 Envelope Savings Challenge. She will learn about setting savings goals, budgeting, and the benefits of saving regularly.

Materials and Prep

  • 100 envelopes
  • A binder to organize the envelopes
  • A pen or marker for labeling
  • Access to a calculator (optional, for calculations)

Before starting the lesson, prepare the envelopes by numbering them from 1 to 100. Make sure Vinee understands the purpose of the challenge and is excited to start saving!

Activities

  • Introduction to Savings:

Begin the lesson by discussing what savings means and why it is important. Use examples from everyday life, like saving for a toy or a special outing.

  • Understanding the 100 Envelope Challenge:

Explain how the 100 Envelope Challenge works. Each envelope corresponds to a number, and Vinee will save that amount of money into each envelope. For example, in envelope 1, she will save $1, in envelope 2, $2, and so on up to $100.

  • Setting Goals:

Have Vinee set a personal savings goal. Ask her what she would like to save for and how much it costs. This will give her motivation to complete the challenge!

  • Tracking Progress:

Create a simple chart in the binder to track how much money has been saved in each envelope. This will help Vinee visualize her progress and stay motivated.

  • Reflection:

At the end of the challenge, have a discussion about what Vinee learned about saving money and how it felt to complete the challenge. Encourage her to think about what she might want to save for next!
