Objective

By the end of this lesson, Lennan will understand the basic principles of animation, create a simple animated sequence using basic techniques, and gain confidence in expressing creativity through animation.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper and pencil for sketching
  • Colored markers or crayons for coloring
  • A smartphone or tablet with a basic animation app (if available)
  • Access to a computer with internet for research (optional)

Before starting the lesson, make sure to gather all materials and set up a comfortable workspace. Familiarize yourself with the animation app if you're using one.

Activities

  • Sketch Your Character

Start by drawing your own character on paper. Think about their personality and what makes them unique. This will be the star of your animation!

  • Understand Frame-by-Frame Animation

Learn about how animation works by creating a flipbook. Draw a simple movement (like a bouncing ball) on the corner of several pages, then flip through them quickly to see your animation come to life!

  • Experiment with Simple Animation Techniques

If you have an animation app, use it to create a short animation. Start with moving your character across the screen or making them jump. This will help you understand how digital animation works!

  • Share Your Animation

Once you've created your animation, share it with family or friends! Explain what inspired you and what you learned during the process.

Talking Points

  • "Animation is all about bringing your ideas to life! What story do you want to tell?"
  • "Did you know that animation is made up of many pictures shown in a quick sequence? It’s like flipping through a comic book!"
  • "Frame-by-frame animation is like magic! Each drawing is a little different, and when you play them fast, they look like they’re moving!"
  • "Think of your character as an actor. What do they want? How do they feel? This will help you animate them better!"
  • "You can create movement by changing the position of your character slightly in each frame. It’s like taking tiny steps!"
  • "What’s your favorite animated movie or show? Let’s think about how they made those characters move!"
  • "Don’t be afraid to make mistakes! Every great animator started with a few funny-looking drawings!"
  • "Remember, the more frames you draw, the smoother your animation will be. How many frames do you want to create?"
  • "Sharing your work is part of being an artist! What do you think others will like about your animation?"
  • "Animation can be a lot of fun, but it also takes patience. How do you feel about being patient while creating?"
  • "What other stories could you tell through animation? Let your imagination run wild!"
  • "Finally, always keep practicing! The more you animate, the better you will get!"
