Objective
By the end of this lesson, Markus will have observed and documented various birds in the garden, created drawings based on his observations, and researched specific bird species to enhance his understanding of their behaviors and habitats.
Materials and Prep
- Notebook or sketchpad for observations and drawings
- Pencil or colored pencils for drawing
- Binoculars (if available) for bird watching
- Access to the internet or library for research on birds
- Bird identification guide (if available) or online resources
Before starting the lesson, ensure that Markus has a quiet place in the garden where he can observe birds without disturbing them. Familiarize him with the types of birds that might be seen in your area.
Activities
-
Bird Watching:
Markus will spend time quietly observing the birds in the garden. He can use binoculars to get a closer look and note down the colors, sizes, and behaviors of the birds he sees.
-
Sketching:
After observing, Markus will create sketches of the birds he saw. Encourage him to focus on details like feather patterns, beak shapes, and any unique features.
-
Writing Observations:
Markus will write a short description of each bird he observed, including its colors, size, and any interesting behaviors. This can be in the form of a journal entry or a creative story.
-
Researching Birds:
Using online resources or books, Markus will choose one bird to research further. He can find information about its habitat, diet, and any interesting facts. This can be presented in a short paragraph or a fun fact sheet.
