Materials and Prep

  • Notebook and pen for taking notes
  • Art supplies (colored pencils, markers, paper)
  • Access to a reliable internet source for research (if applicable)
  • Time to discuss and reflect on the content

Before the lesson, it's important to understand that LGBTQ individuals faced significant challenges during World War II, including discrimination and persecution. However, many also played crucial roles in the war effort.

Activities

  • Research Project:

Aaron will choose an LGBTQ figure from World War II to research. He will create a short presentation (1-2 minutes) about this person, including their contributions and challenges. This can be presented as a written report or verbally.

  • Creative Expression:

Aaron will create a piece of art (drawing, poster, or collage) that represents the LGBTQ experience during World War II. He can include symbols, quotes, or images that resonate with the theme of diversity and acceptance.

  • Discussion and Reflection:

Engage in a discussion about what Aaron learned. Ask him to share his thoughts on how LGBTQ individuals contributed to society during the war and how acceptance has changed over time.
