Objective

Before the lesson, ensure that the candle flame or alcohol lamp is safely set up in a well-ventilated area. Familiarize yourself with the camera settings for long exposure photography.

Activities

  • Exploring Faraday's Chemistry:

    Begin by lighting the candle flame or alcohol lamp and observing the flame's behavior. Discuss the chemical reactions taking place, focusing on combustion and energy release. Encourage the student to take notes on their observations.

  • Watercolor Painting Inspired by Balla:

    Using watercolor paints, have the student create their interpretation of Balla's "Dynamism of a Dog on a Leash." Focus on capturing movement and energy through color and brush strokes. Discuss how Balla used lines and colors to depict motion.

  • Photography Experimentation:

    Set up the camera or smartphone to take long exposure shots of the candle flame or the student moving. Experiment with different settings to capture the motion. Discuss the results and how different shutter speeds affect the image.
