Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to create a visually appealing design using Canva, showcasing their creativity and understanding of basic design principles. They will learn how to use different tools and elements within Canva to express their ideas effectively.

Materials and Prep

  • A computer or tablet with internet access
  • A Canva account (free version is sufficient)
  • Basic knowledge of how to navigate a web browser
  • A list of themes or topics for design inspiration (e.g., favorite animals, hobbies, or fictional characters)

Activities

  • Design Your Dream Poster: The student will choose a theme (like their favorite movie or book) and create a poster using Canva. They can explore different templates, colors, and fonts to make it unique and personal.

  • Social Media Post Challenge: The student will create a social media post for a fictional event. They will think about what information to include and how to make it eye-catching, using Canva's tools to add images, text, and effects.

  • Personalized Greeting Card: The student will design a greeting card for a friend or family member. They will learn how to use shapes, images, and text to convey a message and make it special.

  • Collaborative Design: If possible, the student can invite a friend or family member to join them online and work on a shared project in Canva. This will encourage teamwork and creativity, as they can brainstorm ideas together.
