Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify different places in their community and understand how these places are important to people. They will learn to appreciate the roles that various locations play in everyday life.
Materials and Prep
- No special materials are needed for this lesson.
- Be prepared to talk about places the student knows, such as parks, schools, and stores.
- Think of fun stories or experiences related to these places to share with the student.
Activities
- Place Scavenger Hunt:
Go for a walk around the neighborhood or yard and find different places. As you walk, ask the student to point out places they see, like a playground or a grocery store. Discuss what people do at each place.
- Draw Your Favorite Place:
Have the student draw their favorite place. Once they finish, ask them to tell you about their drawing and why that place is special to them.
- Story Time:
Share a short story about a place, like a park or a zoo. Ask questions about the story to make it interactive, such as, "What do you think we can see at the zoo?"

- "Why do you think people go to the park? What do they do there?"
- "What makes a place special? Is it the fun things we do there?"
- "Do you remember a time we went to a store? What did we buy?"
- "Every place has a job! What job do you think a school does?"
