Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify different body parts, demonstrate control over their movements, and express emotions through dance. The student will have fun while learning how to move their body in creative ways!
Materials and Prep
- No special materials are needed, just a safe space to dance!
- Make sure the area is clear of obstacles to allow for free movement.
- Prepare to play some fun music that encourages dancing!
Activities
-
Body Part Dance:
Start by singing a fun song that names different body parts. As you sing, point to each body part and encourage the student to dance by moving that part of their body. For example, "Wiggle your fingers, shake your hips!"
-
Freeze Dance:
Play some music and let the student dance freely. When the music stops, they must freeze in place. This helps them learn control over their movements and be aware of their bodies.
-
Emotion Dance:
Discuss different emotions (happy, sad, excited) and ask the student to show these feelings through their dance. For example, "How would you dance if you were happy? Show me!"
-
Follow the Leader:
Take turns being the leader and the follower. The leader can create different movements or dances, and the follower must copy them. This helps with body awareness and control.
Talking Points
- "Can you point to your head? Great! Now let’s dance with our heads!"
- "When the music stops, let’s see who can freeze the best! Ready, set, freeze!"
- "What does a happy dance look like? Show me your happy dance!"
- "Let’s play follow the leader! I will show you some cool moves, and you can copy me!"
- "How does your body feel when you dance? Does it feel good to move?"
