Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to analyze and compare the themes and storylines of a live musical and a LEGO storybook, while also improving their reading comprehension skills.

Materials and Prep

  • LEGO storybook
  • Live musical recording or video
  • Pen and paper

Before the lesson, familiarize yourself with the LEGO storybook and the chosen live musical to better guide the student during the activities.

Activities

  1. Read the LEGO storybook together and discuss the main themes and plot points. Encourage the student to take notes on important details.
  2. Watch the live musical recording or video. Ask the student to pay attention to the storyline, characters, and any recurring themes.
  3. Have a discussion comparing and contrasting the themes and storylines of the LEGO storybook and the live musical. Prompt the student to identify similarities and differences, and explain their reasoning.
  4. Ask the student to write a short essay analyzing the chosen live musical, focusing on its central themes and how they are conveyed through music, lyrics, and dialogue.
  5. Encourage the student to create their own LEGO storybook based on the live musical, incorporating similar themes and characters. They can use LEGO bricks to build scenes and write a brief summary of the story.
