Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will understand how music can serve as a powerful motivational tool. They will explore different genres, identify personal motivational songs, and create a personalized motivational playlist that can enhance their mood and productivity.

Materials and Prep

  • Access to a music streaming service or music library
  • A notebook or digital document for notes
  • A device for listening to music (phone, computer, etc.)
  • Optional: Headphones for a more personal listening experience

Before the lesson, the student should think about what types of music they usually enjoy and any songs that they find particularly uplifting or motivating.

Activities

  • Music Genre Exploration:

The student will listen to snippets of different music genres such as pop, rock, classical, hip-hop, and electronic. They will take notes on how each genre makes them feel and which songs resonate as motivational.

  • Personal Reflection:

The student will write a short reflection on their favorite motivational songs. They should consider what memories or feelings these songs evoke and how they can use music to boost their motivation in daily life.

  • Create a Motivational Playlist:

Using the insights gained from the previous activities, the student will create a personalized motivational playlist of at least 10 songs. They will share their playlist with a family member or friend and explain why they chose each song.

  • Music and Mood Journal:

The student will keep a journal for a week where they note their mood before and after listening to their playlist. This will help them understand the impact of music on their emotions and motivation.
