Objective

By the end of this lesson, Emily will be able to identify and describe various breeds of horses, understand their unique characteristics, and appreciate their roles in different cultures and environments.

Materials and Prep

  • Access to a horse or a local stable for observation (if possible)

Before the lesson, ensure that Emily has a basic understanding of what a breed is and why different breeds of horses exist. Familiarize yourself with some common horse breeds and their characteristics.

Activities

  • Horse Breed Research:

    Emily will choose 3-5 different horse breeds to research. She will find out about their physical characteristics, temperament, and uses. This can include breeds like the Arabian, Thoroughbred, and Clydesdale.

  • Creative Drawing:

    After researching, Emily will draw her favorite horse breed, highlighting its unique features. She can label the drawing with important facts about the breed.

  • Horse Breed Presentation:

    Emily will prepare a short presentation about the horse breeds she researched. This can be done verbally or as a mini-poster, sharing interesting facts and why she chose those breeds.

  • Field Observation:

    If possible, visit a local stable or farm where Emily can observe different horse breeds. She can take notes on their behavior and characteristics in a real-world setting.
