Objective

By the end of this lesson, Lincoln will have a better understanding of teamwork and strategy through the lens of Fortnite, as well as how to apply these concepts to real-life situations.

Materials and Prep

  • Notebook and pencil for notes
  • Access to Fortnite (if applicable)
  • Timer (can use a phone or stopwatch)
  • Open space for physical activities
  • Creative mindset!

Before the lesson, make sure Lincoln is familiar with basic gameplay mechanics of Fortnite, including building, teamwork, and strategy. This will help him engage more deeply with the activities.

Activities

  • Fortnite Strategy Discussion

Start with a discussion about Lincoln's favorite strategies in Fortnite. Ask him to explain why he thinks they work and how he uses them in the game. This will help him articulate his thoughts and ideas about strategy.

  • Teamwork Challenge

Set up a physical teamwork challenge where Lincoln has to work with a family member to complete a task (like building a fort with pillows). This will mimic the teamwork aspect of Fortnite and allow him to practice collaboration in a fun way.

  • Create a Fortnite Character

Have Lincoln design his own Fortnite character on paper. He should think about their abilities, strengths, and weaknesses, just like in the game. This will encourage creativity and strategic thinking.

  • Time Management Game

Set a timer for a small challenge (like building a structure with blocks) and let Lincoln see how quickly he can complete it. Discuss how time management is important in Fortnite, especially during matches.

Talking Points

  • "Why do you think teamwork is important in Fortnite?"
  • "Can you think of a time when you worked with your teammates to win a game?"
  • "What strategies do you use when you're in a tough spot in the game?"
  • "How can you apply what you've learned about strategy in Fortnite to other areas of your life?"
  • "What are some qualities that make a good teammate?"
  • "How does time management affect your gameplay?"
  • "What makes your character special? What skills do they have?"
  • "How do you feel when you win a match? What about when you lose?"
  • "What is your favorite part of Fortnite, and why?"
  • "How can you improve your skills in Fortnite outside of the game?"
