Objective
By the end of this lesson, True will learn about different Christmas foods, taste a variety of them, and express preferences for what he likes or dislikes. He will also have fun exploring the flavors and textures of seasonal treats!
Materials and Prep
- Assorted Christmas-themed snacks (e.g., gingerbread cookies, peppermint candies, fruitcake, hot cocoa)
- Small plates or napkins for tasting
- Water for rinsing the palate
- Markers and paper for drawing
Before the lesson, gather all the snacks and prepare a comfortable tasting area. Make sure to have a variety of textures and flavors to keep it exciting!
Activities
-
Christmas Snack Tasting:
True will taste each Christmas snack one at a time. After tasting, he can share what he thinks about each one. Does he like it? Is it sweet, salty, or spicy?
-
Flavor Art:
After tasting, True can draw his favorite Christmas food. He can use colors to represent different flavors he experienced. For example, red for peppermint or brown for gingerbread!
-
Guess the Flavor:
Blindfold True (with a soft scarf) and have him taste a snack. He will guess what it is! This will help him focus on flavors and textures.
-
Christmas Food Story:
True can create a short story about a Christmas feast with his favorite foods. What would happen at the feast? Who would be there? This encourages imagination!
Talking Points
- "What do you think about this snack? Is it yummy or not so yummy?"
- "Can you tell me how it feels in your mouth? Is it crunchy, soft, or chewy?"
- "What colors do you see on your plate? Do any of them remind you of Christmas?"
- "If you could create your own Christmas snack, what would it be? Let's draw it!"
- "What is your favorite Christmas food we tasted today? Why do you like it?"
