Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will learn how to bake and design delicious cake pops. They will understand the basic steps of baking, mixing, and decorating, making it a fun and creative experience!

Materials and Prep

  • Cake mix (any flavor)
  • Eggs
  • Oil
  • Water
  • Mixing bowl
  • Spoon or spatula
  • Cake pop sticks
  • Chocolate or candy coating (for dipping)
  • Sprinkles or decorations (optional)
  • Oven (adult supervision required)

Before starting, make sure an adult is present to help with the oven and any sharp objects. Preheat the oven to the temperature indicated on the cake mix box.

Activities

  • Mixing the Cake Batter:

Start by mixing the cake mix with eggs, oil, and water in a bowl. Let the student help measure and pour the ingredients. This is a great opportunity to practice counting and measuring!

  • Baking the Cake:

Once the batter is mixed, pour it into a baking dish and place it in the oven (with adult help). While it bakes, talk about how heat changes the batter into cake!

  • Shaping the Cake Pops:

After the cake cools, crumble it into a bowl and mix it with frosting. Let the student roll small balls and place them on a tray. This is where their creativity can shine!

  • Dipping and Decorating:

Once the cake balls are ready, help the student dip them in melted chocolate or candy coating. They can then add sprinkles or other decorations to personalize their cake pops!

Talking Points

  • "Do you know what happens when we bake? The heat makes the cake rise and turn yummy!"
  • "Can you help me count how many eggs we need? One, two, three...!"
  • "Look at how we can change this cake into little balls! What shapes can we make?"
  • "What colors do you want to use for the chocolate? Let’s make it colorful!"
  • "How many sprinkles do you think we should add? Let’s make it super fun!"
