Objective
By the end of this lesson, Gatlin will be able to identify different community helpers, understand their roles, and express appreciation for the important work they do in our community.
Materials and Prep
- No specific materials are needed for this lesson.
- Prepare a list of community helpers to discuss, such as firefighters, police officers, doctors, teachers, and mail carriers.
- Think of fun questions to ask Gatlin about each community helper.
Activities
- Community Helpers Story Time:
Read a short story about community helpers. As you read, pause to ask Gatlin what he thinks each helper does and how they help people.
- Role Play:
Let Gatlin choose a community helper to pretend to be. Encourage him to act out what that helper does and how they help others. You can join in by pretending to be someone who needs help!
- Draw a Community Helper:
Ask Gatlin to draw his favorite community helper and explain what they do. This can help him express his understanding creatively.
- Thank You Cards:
Help Gatlin create thank you cards for community helpers. He can draw pictures or write simple messages to show appreciation for their work.
