Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will have explored various subjects through the lens of Fortnite, enhancing their understanding of art, language, history, math, music, physical education, science, and social studies in a fun and engaging way.
Materials and Prep
- Paper and colored pencils or crayons
- Access to a timer (can use a phone or watch)
- A notebook for writing
- Open space for physical activities
Before starting the lesson, familiarize yourself with Fortnite characters, items, and the general gameplay. This will help relate the activities to the student’s interests.
Activities
-
Art: Create Your Own Fortnite Character
Using paper and colored pencils, the student will design their own Fortnite character. They can think about special abilities, outfits, and weapons. Encourage them to be as creative as they want!
-
English: Write a Short Story
The student will write a short story about an adventure their character goes on in Fortnite. They can include challenges, friends, and how they overcome obstacles.
-
History: Learn About the Evolution of Video Games
Discuss how video games have changed over the years, focusing on Fortnite as a modern example. The student can draw a timeline showing different video games from the past to the present.
-
Math: Fortnite Resource Management
Set up a simple scenario where the student has to collect resources (like wood, stone, and metal) and use math to figure out how many of each they need to build a structure. They can create a mini-game to simulate resource collection.
-
Music: Create a Fortnite Dance
Encourage the student to create their own dance inspired by Fortnite emotes. They can perform it and even create a short video to show off their moves!
-
Physical Education: Obstacle Course
Design a small obstacle course in your home or yard that mimics challenges in Fortnite. Use pillows, chairs, or any safe items to jump over, crawl under, or balance on.
-
Science: Build a Simple Structure
Using household items, challenge the student to build a structure that can withstand a "storm" (like a fan blowing air). Discuss concepts like stability and balance.
-
Social Studies: Teamwork in Fortnite
Discuss the importance of teamwork in Fortnite and in real life. The student can share examples of how they work with friends in the game and why teamwork is valuable.
