Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will have a comprehensive understanding of how to create a business plan for selling fudge. This includes budgeting for ingredients and packaging, cooking techniques, marketing strategies, and the importance of financial literacy in entrepreneurship.

Materials and Prep

  • Basic cooking ingredients for fudge (sugar, butter, chocolate, etc.)
  • Packaging materials (boxes, bags, labels)
  • Paper and writing utensils for drafting the business plan
  • Access to a kitchen for cooking
  • Calculator for budgeting
  • Internet access for research on market trends and recipes

Before starting the lesson, ensure that the student understands basic cooking techniques and has a safe cooking environment. Familiarize them with budgeting concepts and business plan structure.

Activities

  • Research and Recipe Development:

    The student will research different fudge recipes and choose 3-5 varieties to prepare. They will also analyze the cost of ingredients for each recipe to understand budgeting.

  • Business Plan Drafting:

    Using the information gathered, the student will draft a simple business plan that includes their product offerings, target market, pricing strategy, and financial projections.

  • Cooking Session:

    The student will prepare the selected fudge recipes, practicing their cooking skills while following safety and hygiene protocols.

  • Marketing Strategy Creation:

    The student will brainstorm ideas for marketing their fudge, including designing labels and thinking about how to promote their product to potential customers.

  • Presentation:

    The student will present their business plan and fudge samples to family members or friends, practicing their public speaking and sales skills.
