Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the basics of game design through Roblox, including how to create a simple game and the importance of game mechanics and player engagement.

Materials and Prep

  • A computer with internet access
  • A Roblox account (if not already created, it can be done for free)
  • Roblox Studio installed on the computer
  • Basic knowledge of navigating Roblox and playing games

Activities

  • Explore Roblox Games

    The student will spend some time playing different games on Roblox to observe what makes them fun and engaging. They should take notes on what they like and dislike about each game.

  • Create a Simple Game

    Using Roblox Studio, the student will create a basic game. They will learn to use different tools to add elements like obstacles, characters, and goals. The focus will be on creativity and fun!

  • Game Mechanics Discussion

    After creating their game, the student will discuss with the teacher what game mechanics they used and how they can improve player engagement. This will help them think critically about their design choices.

  • Feedback Session

    The student will play their game and then ask family members or friends for feedback. They will learn the importance of constructive criticism and how it can help improve their game.
